I Can. You Can’t (read before you judge please)

Oh how many times I said phrases or thought thoughts like this. “I’m better than you.” The entire reason for me saying phrases like these is to improve my own self-importance. At what cost? So what if I increase my social standing if I put this person down?  My life has been filled with moments like these. I am so foolish. So immature. Why would I say something like this? It would have been better just to say something like “I might be ok at this, but you are way better than me at school.” (which is probably true for most of these situations.) Why do I feel the need to tear someone down and bolster my own arrogant ways?
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” I make fun of someone who is CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. If they are created in the image of God and I’m making fun of them in any way, doesn’t that mean that I think I’m better than God? The entire purpose of my life is to glorify God forever. Am I doing that by making fun of his creation? I should be encouraging them, instead of tearing them down.

So why do I do it? The Fall. Adam and Eve weren’t the only ones who made that decision to disobey God. All of mankind made that decision. I made the choice to disobey my Lord and Savior. From my very first whine to my last breath, I will be a sinner. When I die, will I think that my boasting will have helped me? Not at all. This life will be filled with sin. It’s inescapable. What matters is this. Jesus died for me so that I can live again. He came so that you and I could be saved from our broken ways. 2 Corinthians 5:15 “And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”
